Following last year's successful launch of
it's cutting edge variable frequency metal detector, the IQ3+,
Loma Systems is proud to launch its next generation checkweigher - the
compact and versatile CW3. The CW3 Checkweigher is designed very specifically with the food production industry in mind. The checkweigher can easily be integrated into high-speed lines with belt speeds up to 120m/min, making this unit ideal for today's high volume production lines. Fast and accurate, the CW3 can cope with a wide range of flexible and rigid packs weighing up to 1.5kg, and future models will be able to handle heavier weight packs. The demanding and specific needs of industrial food production, such as strict cleanliness and enhanced durability, have been key factors in the development of the machine, following the company's ethos of 'Designed to Survive'. The machine will operate accurately at low temperatures and is resilient to cold, which is crucial when many food production lines run in near freezing environments. Constructed of stainless steel, right down to the bearings and rollers, the CW3 Checkweigher will happily endure real-world production line conditions and the inevitable intensive cleaning processes needed to maintain hygiene standards. It is designed for the toughest industrial environments - the integrity of the system meets IP69K 'harsh environment' cleaning specifications with enhanced protection for high temperature, high-pressure washdown regimes. Another major facet of the development of the checkweigher has been improved usability and ergonomics. It is a flexible, customisable unit that will fit neatly into most existing conveyor systems, improving accuracy and usability in many operations. User-friendly touch screen controls offer simple, multi-lingual operation for a wide variety of operators. With this increased flexibility, the unit can easily adapt to new or changing products and pack sizes, and can even be switched to other production lines or manufacturing plants should the need arise. |
|||||
|
The checkweigher has a simple USB connection and a PC interface making
it easy to produce reports and statistics and to download these either
to a memory stick or to a factory network. Added to this, Loma have made sure the CW3 Checkweigher is fully compatible with their IQ3/ IQ3+ metal detector system, so both machines can be used in unison and controlled using the same interface panel. This combination system will store the product weight details and contaminant detection requirements of dozens of products, so that safely changing products on the line is fast and easy. This ability is particularly useful in applications such as contract packaging, where it brings about both a significant reduction in downtime and a major improvement in food product safety, reducing downtime. |

As well as being fast and efficient, the CW3
Checkweigher is designed with a small footprint so it takes up as little
production line space as possible. The design is easy to clean, having
paid keen attention to minimising bug-traps, and the bead-blast surface
of the machine is water-repellent to stop cleaning solutions settling.
This dramatically cuts drying times - a significant consideration in
any cleaning regime. Quick-release mechanisms for conveyors and other
attachments also make cleaning easier and further reduce the potential
for dirt to build-up. The CW3 Checkweigher is an exciting product launch, as the company's Managing Director, Simon Spencer commented. "The CW3 represents another advance by us in providing affordable weighing technology dedicated to the needs of the Food Industry. It is particularly well suited to weighing and inspecting the growing number of products sold by average weight, such as cheese, which it handles accurately and cost-effectively. Supermarket Codes of Practice and other important food manufacturing regulations have a major impact on food suppliers who need the best technology as well as value for money. Great value and state-of-the-art technology - the CW3 Checkweigher delivers on all fronts!". We are a world leader in the design and manufacture of in-line inspection equipment. With a comprehensive range of Metal Detectors, Checkweighers and X-ray systems, we are committed to providing the most efficient and cost-effective solutions for all food product inspection requirements. |

Witwood Food Products has chosen Loma Systems,
a world leader in the design and manufacture of food inspection systems,
to supply the latest IQ3 metal detection systems to maintain the safety
of its products and enhance the speed of it's production lines. Witwood Food Products, the market leader in the development and supply of innovative food coatings, including such coatings as batter and bread crumbs for chilled food and frozen food companies worldwide, has installed the IQ3 metal detector at it's site in Banbury, Oxfordshire. The company has a global presence and reputation through subsidiaries in Australia, South East Asia and a strategic alliance in the USA. This allows the company to monitor, and cater for, trends in Asian, Australian and American food. Excellent safety and quality control is key to maintaining Witwood's reputation as a key supplier to a wide range of customers. The installation of the IQ3 metal detector covers a key business need as Dave Black, Engineering Manager for Witwood's Banbury facility, explained: "As a food ingredient manufacturer we need to ensure strict compliance, both for safety and for giving a comprehensive paper trail for audit purposes. We need to ensure product integrity, and metal detection is something we always use to closely monitor it. The IQ3 gives a reliable final check on products being dispatched from the production line." Witwood have used a number of Loma machines in the past, including the previous IQ2 metal detection units, and already have two other IQ3 machines. Dave Black continues: "We have used various different companies in the past, but we like Loma because of the reliability of the equipment. We have historically used Loma products and they have given us a good service in the past - so it was a natural progression to move on to the IQ3 model." The IQ3 metal detector uses a 32-bit microprocessor, which results in faster data processing and uses the innovative Automatic Product Learn system to calibrate and automatically learn the characteristics and settings for up to 100 different products. It also has an innovative Variable Frequency system, to allow the operator to automatically find the ideal frequency for the type of product being inspected. "Using the Loma IQ3 metal detector system has noticeably improved line efficiency," commented Dave Black. "The machine is self-learning, so it is very straightforward to operate and maintain in a busy and time-sensitive environment." The IQ3's bright control panel is very simple to use and is designed to be used in multi-language environments. The machine includes a Performance Validation System, automatically prompting the operator to test performance at pre-set intervals according to HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) principles, and producing a detailed record of any contaminants found. Added to this the IQ3 uses an industry standard OPC system (Object Linking and Embedding for Process Control), allowing operations managers to easily integrate the equipment in factory data capture networks. |
|||||
|
There have been other benefits for Witwood too. As well as being simple
to use and maintain the IQ3 metal detector is well suited to the rigorous
environment of a modern food processing production line. "The machines
are easy and straightforward to keep clean. There aren't too many nooks
and crannies so it's very easy to keep the surfaces hygienic," added
Dave Black.
A track record of reliability, usability and suitability to the lines at Witwood is evident in the repeat orders for Loma machines. "The fact we keep ordering them shows that we are very pleased with our previous experiences and we are keen to continue using Loma machines as part of our production and quality control operations." |

Downtime is one of the biggest fears for many
manufacturers and processors in the fast-moving food and drink industry.
Even juggling routine servicing and minor repairs can be a major headache
and more serious problems can prove to be very costly. Having worked
closely with food and drink manufacturers and processors for many years,
Loma Systems, the inspection technology specialist, is fully aware of
the pressures and concerns associated with downtime and have tailored
their servicing facilities to address these. Maintenance services are a vital part of Loma's continued support to their customers, as their Managing Director Simon Spencer commented. "In an ideal world, production machinery would never need to be serviced or repaired. At Loma, we focus our product development teams on getting as close as possible to this goal, and the newest range of Loma inspection machinery is designed to survive the most demanding conditions you can find within the food industry. Of course, even with the toughest machines on the market, problems can occur, and we fully understand the impact of lost production time upon our customers. Our dedicated maintenance teams are trained to deliver a fast and effective response when disaster strikes. When one of our customers calls with a problem, our mission is to get the right engineer on site with the right parts as fast as possible. We think we have the best Response Time and First Time Fix Rate in the industry, but we will get even faster, and we will get even better. Our objective is to deliver maximum uptime from our equipment." Loma's close working relationship with its food and drink customers is also reflected in its expertise. "Our engineers are trained to work in the specific and unique food production environment and to be FoodSafe," commented Simon Spencer. "They have extensive experience, as well as specialist clothing and tools, to ensure they cause minimal disruption to production lines. Uniquely to Loma, we also have a second tier of dedicated experts supporting our team of engineers, to ensure that particularly challenging technical problems can be escalated and resolved." |
|||||
|
As well as being reactive to customer needs, Loma takes a proactive
approach to potential problems. The results of service visits and diagnostic
reports from machines are closely monitored so potential issues can
be identified and resolved at the earliest possible juncture, often
before they become a critical problem. This is also made possible by
the ease with which customers can analyse the performance of the equipment,
meaning that they can rectify many problems onsite themselves or by
forwarding reports to Loma for more in-depth help. New Loma machines,
such as the CW3 Checkweigher and IQ3 Metal Detector utilise an extensive
range of software downloads available directly from Loma, making many
adjustments easy to perform on-site.
|
|
||||
One customer that relies on Loma's comprehensive service care is Taylors of Harrogate, who produce the famous Yorkshire Tea. As Richard Light of the company commented, having the security of a good service backup is essential to their business. "As a major producer of tea and coffee, production time is vital to us. If any part of the production line has a problem, it has a knock-on effect which can potentially disrupt our operations - so having the peace of mind that Loma will maintain our machines is very important. The fact that it is a prompt, efficient service is vital in our efforts to minimise any downtime." |

part of the European food processing and food retail markets. As globalisation
accelerates, multinational chains are expressing an increased interest
in the Nordic markets. Recent mergers and restructuring of the Scandinavian
food retail sector offer new opportunities for both supplier and consumer.
In a move to increase their market share within this key territory, Loma Systems has recently appointed Scanvaegt Nordic as their master distributor for Scandinavia. |
|
||||
Scanvaegt
Nordic is a well-known solutions supplier within the Scandinavian food

The aim of this new Distribution agreement, will be to work together in Scandinavia to maximise opportunities in both the metal detection and X-ray sectors by providing the latest technical solutions, supported by a dedicated and focused technical service network. Ian Craig, Loma's International Export Manager commented, "We are delighted to have signed this agreement with Scanvaegt Nordic. Two recognised brands coming together will mean a higher level of Inspection solution to our end customers. Scanvaegt Nordic have an in-depth understanding of this market and with our latest generation of inspection technology, we have core ingredients for a very successful partnership". |
